APC Chieftain, Ifeanyi Ibezi has dumped the party in Anambra State.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that a chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC, and former member of the House of Representatives, Ifeanyi Ibezi, has pledged his support for the Governor of Anambra State, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA.

This Nigeria news platform understands that Ibezi, who once represented the Idemili North and South federal constituency in the House of Representatives, explained that his decision was based on APC’s reluctance to win the forthcoming governorship election.

His decision followed the victory of Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu over other aspirants within the party who were perceived to be more qualified.

During a meeting at his country home in Abatete, Idemili North Local Government Area, Ibezi stated that he had switched his allegiance to the incumbent governor, insisting that Governor Chukwuma Soludo must be re-elected for a second term since his party was not ready to field a suitable candidate.

In the meeting, Ibezi said: “Soludo must go for a second term. I went on inspection of his projects, and I know he is doing well. If your party is not doing well, what will you do? Is it not to switch support to a better party?”

He avowed that “our support will move immediately to Soludo.”

Three governorship aspirants of the APC had stepped down from the race in Saturday’s primary election, citing irregularities and the violent tendencies of one of the aspirants.

One of the aspirants, Prof. Obiora Okonkwo, in his withdrawal, stated that he could not risk the lives of his supporters in his pursuit of the party’s ticket, while another, Paul Chukwuma, cited the existence of unprogressive elements as his reason for leaving the party.
