Ondo State Governor Arakunrin Rotimi Akeredolu, has again re-emphasized that Amotekun, Western Nigeria Security Network, must bear sophisticated weapons to secure the people of Ondo State and the Yoruba land in general.
Newsonline reports that Akeredolu said, just as state security outfits in Kastina, Borno and in Northern states bear sophisticated weapons, Amotekun which is established by law must also bear the same weapon.
The Chairman of Southern Governors Forums who stated this at the Passing-Out -Parade of the course3 and 4 of the State Amotekun Corps on Monday in Akure added that “without providing the sub-national security forces to be a counter-balancing force we have a crisis which strikes at the heart of the conception and the definition of the state itself.”
The statement signed by the governor read, “We were at the Passing-Out Parade of Courses 3 and 4 of the State Amotekun Corps, yesterday.
“At the ceremony, I stated that Amotekun must be allowed to bear the tools and the most sophisticated weapons available to fight back against marauders committing crimes against humanity.

“I stressed that the State Security outfits backed by law whether in the Western Nigeria, Katsina, Borno, Benue, or any Northern State must have access to the same sophisticated weapons that the marauders have.
Without providing the sub-national security forces to be a counter-balancing force we have a crisis which strikes at the heart of the conception and the definition of the state itself. It is not just the definition of the State, the State itself is under existential threat.
“The efforts of our determined and valiant Amotekun personnel since inception must be underscored, encouraged and highly commended. We must all rise at this time to acknowledge their efforts.
“On our parts, we will continue to support the operational capacity of all security agencies in the State both in terms of equipment and the welfare of their personnel.
“The recent donation of 50-fitted patrol vehicles is a testament to our resolve to be up-to-date in fighting crime and criminality because without a secured environment, there can never be visible and sustained development.
“Let me reiterate that our administration will continue to support the operational capacity of all security agencies in the State both in terms of equipment and the welfare of their personnel. Our commitment to the safety and welfare of the people and investors remains unshaken.”
