ADC Urges Tinubu to Curb Wike Over Alleged Plot to Destabilise Party in Rivers

the Rivers State chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to intervene and rein in the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, over an alleged plot to destabilise the party in the state.

ADC has urges Tinubu to curb Wike over alleged plot to destabilise party in Rivers State.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that the Rivers State chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to intervene and rein in the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, over an alleged plot to destabilise the party in the state.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the state chairman of the party, Chief Leader Sampson, alleged that the ADC in Ikwerre Local Government Area and by extension across the 23 local government areas of Rivers State is facing a coordinated attempt to undermine its structure.

According to the statement, the party uncovered what it described as a calculated move allegedly linked to the FCT Minister, acting through the Chairman of Ikwerre Local Government Council, Mr. Charles Wobodo, and under the supervision of Mr. Samuel Nwanosike, to create parallel and unconstitutional structures within the ADC.

The party claimed that the alleged actions include moves to impose non-existent local government and ward executives, as well as directives purportedly encouraging elected ward councillors to unlawfully assume leadership positions within the party.

The ADC described the situation as a direct assault on democratic principles, political plurality, and Nigerians’ constitutional right to freely associate and participate in the political process. It warned that attempts to suppress opposition parties often arise from fear of accountability and poor performance in public office.

The party urged President Tinubu to immediately intervene by calling the FCT Minister to order in order to protect democratic norms and ensure political stability in Rivers State.

It also called on relevant security agencies to urgently investigate the allegations and take steps to prevent any actions capable of escalating political tension or triggering a crisis in the state.

Reaffirming its stance, the ADC Rivers State chapter said it would firmly defend its constitutionally recognised structures against any unlawful interference, while remaining committed to peaceful, lawful, and democratic means.

The party further reiterated its commitment to democratic values, peaceful political engagement, and good governance, urging its members and supporters to remain calm, law-abiding, and vigilant as they continue to support the party’s vision of people-centred leadership in Rivers State and across Nigeria.
