ADC Slams Tinubu for Launching 2027 Campaign Amid National Security Emergency

ADC has slammed President Tinubu for allgedly launching 2027 campaign amid national security emergency.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has berated President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for allegedly kicking off his 2027 re-election campaign while Nigeria remains under a declared state of emergency.

In a strongly worded statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the party described the move as “cynically insensitive,” arguing that it contradicts the essence of an emergency declaration and ignores the daily suffering of Nigerians.

The ADC condemned reports that the President distributed branded Hilux trucks, Land Cruisers, and Hummer buses to political loyalists under the banner of “Renewed Hope Ambassadors,” insisting the gesture was more in line with campaign mobilisation than national leadership in a time of crisis.

“Instead of acting as a President leading a nation in distress, he is behaving like a candidate desperate for re-election,” the statement read. “This is happening while citizens are being kidnapped, communities attacked, and insecurity spirals out of control.”

The party accused Tinubu of violating the Electoral Act and disregarding the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) timetable, noting that official campaigns for the 2027 elections have not commenced.

The ADC expressed shock that such political activity could take place while Nigerians continue to experience severe hardship and rising violence.

“Entire communities are under siege, our military is overstretched, yet the ruling party is distributing branded vehicles and preparing partisan structures,” it said. “At a time when families are grieving and children are being abducted, the President is concentrating on re-election instead of national security.”

The party urged INEC to intervene and safeguard the integrity of the electoral process.

Concluding its statement, the ADC called on President Tinubu to “return to the business of governance or openly admit that his re-election ambition has taken priority over Nigeria’s recovery.”
