ADC’s Ralph Nwosu has said that opposition coalition aims to rescue Nigeria and not target Tinubu personally.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that Former National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Ralph Nwosu, has clarified that the newly formed opposition coalition ahead of the 2027 general elections is not a personal attack on President Bola Tinubu, but a direct response to what he described as a worsening crisis of governance under the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Speaking during an interview on Arise Television on Sunday, Nwosu explained that the coalition chose the ADC as its platform to provide Nigerians with a credible alternative, lamenting the current administration’s failure to address widespread poverty, hunger, and economic stagnation.

“This is not about Tinubu as a person. It’s about the state of governance under the APC. The people are suffering,” he said.

“No Nigerian Is Happy” – Nwosu

Nwosu painted a bleak picture of the national mood, stating that despair and hardship are now the dominant emotions across Nigeria.

“I did a survey — from churches to motor parks, airports, and bukas. Everyone is frustrated. Hunger and despair are everywhere.”

He accused the ruling class of being disconnected from the everyday realities of ordinary Nigerians, claiming that political elites are thriving while the masses struggle.

“They’re building mansions, going on global vacations, and spending like never before, while ordinary people suffer.”

Criticism of Government Projects

Nwosu also condemned what he called misplaced priorities, referencing the controversial Lagos-Calabar coastal highway project.

“We are spending N15 trillion, now over N20 trillion, on a road that will take 20 years to finish. How is that a priority in today’s Nigeria?”

He labelled the APC’s economic approach as a “palliative economy,” which he argued does little to address structural poverty or create lasting development.

A Coalition for the People, Not for Power

Insisting the coalition is not driven by political ambition, Nwosu stressed that it is an organic movement for national salvation, not personal gain.

“It’s not about me or anyone running for office. It’s about Nigerians. This is not the democracy our heroes fought for.”

He went on to invoke the legacy of late pro-democracy icons, saying they would have backed the movement.

“If MKO Abiola were alive, he would be part of this coalition. If Shehu Musa Yar’Adua were alive, he too would have joined.”

The opposition coalition’s emergence signals growing dissatisfaction with the APC-led government, as stakeholders rally to redefine Nigeria’s political direction ahead of 2027.
