ADC has condemned Peter Obi’s Edo Assasination attempt and accused APC of political intimidation.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has condemned what it described as a gun attack and attempted assassination targeting some of its leaders in Edo State.

In a statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, the party alleged that the incident was aimed at former Edo State governor John Odigie-Oyegun, former presidential candidate Peter Obi, and Olumide Akpata, who recently joined the ADC.

ADC Alleges Pattern of Intimidation

The party accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of fostering what it termed a pattern of political violence and intimidation against opposition figures nationwide.

According to the ADC, the reported shooting was not a random incident but a deliberate attempt to frighten and silence political opponents. The party described the use of gunfire in a democratic setting as unacceptable and dangerous.

Concerns Over Governor’s Remarks

The ADC also expressed concern over past remarks allegedly made by Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo. The party claimed the governor had previously suggested he could not guarantee Peter Obi’s safety if he visited the state.

It further alleged that the governor accused the ADC of sponsoring cult groups and threatened to demolish properties linked to opposition members — statements the party described as reckless and capable of escalating tensions.

The ADC stressed that no political party or governor “owns” any state in Nigeria and that all citizens have the constitutional right to freedom of movement, speech, and political participation.

Warning of Legal and Diplomatic Action

The party warned that if any of its leaders, members, or supporters are harmed amid what it described as rising hostility, those responsible would be held accountable.

“We are compiling all cases of acts of terrorism by the ruling APC against our party. We shall soon be making our reports available to all diplomatic missions as well as the ECOWAS Court of Human Rights,” the statement read.

Despite the alleged attack, the ADC maintained that it would not be intimidated, urging members nationwide to remain calm, vigilant, and continue their lawful political activities without fear.

Security agencies are yet to release a comprehensive statement on the incident as investigations continue.
