Peter Obi has suspended all his public engagements on health grounds.
NewsOnline Nigeria reports that Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has announced a temporary suspension of his public engagements on medical advice.
In a statement posted on his X handle on Saturday, the former Anambra State governor revealed that he began feeling unwell while in Enugu, prompting a hospital visit where doctors prescribed medication and advised rest.
“Earlier in Enugu, I was not feeling well. I visited the hospital where the doctor gave me some medication and advised me to take a day or two days’ rest. In obedience to the doctor’s advice, I will not be able to meet up with all my scheduled engagements within and outside the country this weekend,” Obi wrote.

He apologised to supporters and stakeholders for any inconveniences caused, appealing for their understanding.
Before the health scare, Obi had attended a tourism event in Enugu and later visited the Good Hope Specialist Hospital, Isulo, in Orumba South LGA of Anambra State. The facility, currently being acquired by the Aguata Diocese of the Church of Nigeria, is slated for transformation into a comprehensive health complex.
Obi pledged an initial ₦10 million donation to support the Diocese’s plans, which include establishing a School of Nursing, Midwifery, and Health Technology. Commending the initiative, he said, “Healthcare remains one of the most meaningful investments we can make. Faith-based organisations have shown, time and again, that with the right support, they can deliver excellence.”
From Isulo, Obi travelled to Owerri where he attended a dinner hosted by Barrister Nnaemeka Maduagwu in honour of former Kaduna State governor, Nasir El-Rufai. He later joined fans in celebrating Nigeria’s Super Eagles after their victory over Rwanda, posting a congratulatory message on his X handle.
