Jonathan is set for PDP return over 2027 South Party Ticket Zoning.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that Former President Goodluck Jonathan may be edging closer to a political comeback after the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) zoned its 2027 presidential ticket to the South, clearing the way for him to run.

Jonathan, who has so far remained guarded about his 2027 intentions, has faced mounting pressure from loyalists urging him to return. His supporters believe he is the most “acceptable southern option” to northern power blocs, as he is constitutionally limited to a single four-year term.

The PDP’s National Executive Committee (NEC) approved the zoning formula on Monday, ensuring that with the party’s national chairman from the North, the presidency would rotate South. This directly aligns with arguments long advanced by Jonathan’s backers.

While he has yet to make a formal declaration, pro-Jonathan groups have recently intensified their campaigns, claiming he has given tacit approval to run on the PDP platform. For many within the party, his candidacy is viewed as a unifying compromise capable of bridging PDP’s northern and southern divides.

The development comes as internal party dynamics heat up ahead of the 2027 race, with Jonathan now firmly back in the conversation as a leading contender.
