NYSC and NBA have condemned brutal assault on Corps Member in Anambra State.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has strongly condemned the assault on a corps member, Jennifer Elobor, by operatives of a local vigilante group in Anambra State.

In a statement on Wednesday, NYSC Acting Director of Information and Public Relations, Caroline Embu, described the incident as “unacceptable and dehumanising,” stressing that no justification could warrant such treatment.

A viral video had shown members of Operation Udo Ga-Achi, popularly called the Agunechemba Vigilante Group, beating and stripping Elobor in Oba community, Idemili South LGA, after accusing her and others of fraud.

The Anambra State Government confirmed on Tuesday that the operatives involved have been arrested, with investigations ongoing. NYSC said it will cooperate fully with the police to ensure justice is served while also providing support to the victim to manage the trauma.

Meanwhile, the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has demanded the immediate prosecution of the culprits. In a joint statement, NBA President Afam Osigwe and National Secretary Mobolaji Ojibara insisted that justice must not only be done but be “seen to be done,” to deter future abuses.
