WAEC has debunked the viral list alleging that120 schools results have been withheld over exam malpractice.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has dismissed a widely circulated list on social media claiming that the results of 120 schools were withheld in the recently released 2025 May/June West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) due to alleged examination malpractice.

In an official statement issued Monday, the examination body described the document as fake and misleading, urging candidates, parents, and stakeholders to disregard it.

The misleading circular, which gained traction via WhatsApp, falsely claimed that 120 schools mostly in Lagos State had been summoned to appear before WAEC’s Investigative Panel over malpractice allegations.

The document, allegedly signed by one “Dr. Florence Omobonike Ajayi,” purported to be WAEC’s Director of Examination Malpractice and Irregularities, directed affected schools to submit candidate scripts and related documents before August 16, 2025.

WAEC categorically denied issuing such a circular, clarifying that it neither requests schools to provide exam scripts nor identifies institutions by name in its records.

“The message never emanated from us,” WAEC said in a response to Tribune Online. “Moreover, WAEC will never ask any school to bring the scripts of their candidates to the office. Where would they get them from? We don’t know schools by their names. We only know centres and their Centre Numbers.”

WAEC also reaffirmed the legitimacy of the released results, revealing that 38.32 percent of candidates secured five credits including English Language and Mathematics in the 2025 examination cycle.

The Council urged the public to verify all examination-related information solely through WAEC’s official platforms to avoid being misled by fabricated reports.
