PDP is reportedly wooing Peter Obi with 2027 Presidential Ticket amid ongoing political realignment.

In a major political development ahead of the 2027 general elections, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is reportedly making strategic moves to bring back Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, with the promise of a presidential ticket.

The revelation was made by Professor Jerry Gana, a founding member of the PDP and former Minister of Information, during an interview on African Independent Television (AIT) on Friday.

According to Gana, the PDP is actively engaging Obi and other prominent southern political figures as part of a broader realignment aimed at strengthening the party’s chances in 2027.

“Yes, why not? He was our member,” Gana said when asked to confirm discussions with Obi.
“In fact, if I were the former Vice President, I would have said in 2023, ‘Peter, you were my running mate in 2019. Now, I’ll support you.’ That would have sent a strong message.”

The move comes after the PDP’s Deputy National Publicity Secretary, Ibrahim Abdullahi, described Obi as a valuable political asset, saying:

“Peter Obi is our product. We want to get him back, indeed, because he is a very, very great capital for any political party.”

While formal negotiations are yet to begin, Gana disclosed that conversations are already taking place with key individuals within Obi’s inner circle.

“I’ve met him. I’ve also met people he closely works with. We’ve sat down and discussed at length. We are moving step by step,” Gana revealed.

The PDP is not limiting its efforts to Obi alone. Gana noted that the party is exploring alliances with several other influential figures across the southern region.

“We’re not just looking at one person. One, two, three—even more. The South is full of talent,” he said.

As the 2027 race gradually takes shape, the PDP’s outreach to Obi signals a potential political shake-up that could reshape Nigeria’s power dynamics. Observers believe that a merger or alliance involving Obi could redefine the electoral map and set the stage for a fierce contest.
