NNPC has broken the silence on Mele Kyari resigning as CEO.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) has dismissed rumours that its Group Chief Executive Officer, Mele Kyari, will step down in January 2025.

According to the company, only President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has the authority to decide whether Kyari stays or steps down.

The rumours began as Kyari approaches his 60th birthday on January 8, with some speculating that he might retire and be replaced by one Bayo Ojulari from Kwara State.

NNPCL described these reports as false and declared that decisions about Kyari’s position rest entirely with the president, who also serves as the Minister of Petroleum.

The company further stated that its appointments are based on merit, skill, and performance, not on ethnicity, religion, or other personal factors.

It highlighted that NNPCL operates as a global energy company, employing both Nigerians and foreign experts.

The focus, the company said, is on finding professionals who can deliver results, regardless of background or beliefs.

NNPCL assured the public that it remains committed to transparency and efficient management as it continues its operations.
