Fuel Scarcity, New Naira Notes: PDP Feast On War Buhari Vs Tinubu War

The main opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) seems to be taking advantage of the ‘war’ that erupted between President Buhari and APC presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu.

NewsOnline reports that the attack on Buhari’s policy on new naira notes by Bola Tinubu showed that the ruling APC is not having the support of the president.

Recall that President Muhammadu Buhari until lately had avoided the campaigns of Tinubu.

However, Wednesday was the day issues broke out which the PDP has seen as a good meal that should be fed on for the benefit of their presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar.

President Buhari on Wednesday said the January 31st deadline for old naira notes stands and cannot be changed despite calls from the APC-controlled National Assembly – the Senate and House of Reps.

The APC had also made calls for the CBN to adjust the deadline for the old naira notes to June 30 as suggested by the National Assembly.

Tinubu – former Lagos State governor and APC presidential candidate –  in Osun State on Wednesday, during his presidential rally, accused the presidency of using the new naira policy and fuel scarcity to affect his chances of winning the 2023 presidential election. He, however, maintained he would win.

Buhari in the interview said the deadline for the old naira notes was to ensure politicians who had packed the old notes do not engage in vote buying or mobilizing thugs with money that will disrupt a peaceful election. He said he is committed to giving Nigerians a free and fair election as his last legacy before living office in May.

Reacting to the war of words between Tinubu and the presidency, Daniel Bwala, PDP presidential campaign spokesman said, “turned against the CBN governor to remove him it failed; Now they are crying like a rat trapped in his own hole.

“When I say their campaign manifesto is a declaration of no confidence on their government, they said nooo. Now that the president is not prepared to assist them rig the elections they are turning the heat against him.”

Reno Omokri, a member of Atiku/Okowa campaign council in a series of tweets said, “This Is Why Tinubu Lashed Out in Anger Against Buhari’s Government and CBN Governor Emefiele Today. It is Game Over For Him! Now He Will Struggle For Second Place With His ‘Tenant’ Obi!

He continued, “Why is Tinubu threatening the CBN Governor? Is he afraid his bullion can strategy has been checkmated? The international community should beam their spotlight on Tinubu. He showed us his US visa not too long ago. Let him try traveling to the US after that threat!”

Reno added, “Bola Tinubu should note that It is not a coincidence the US Secretary of State, issued a statement today about visa restrictions on individuals undermine the 2023 election. His not so subtle threat against the CBN’s Naira redesign policy was heard in Washington DC!”
