The presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, has apologized to the Rivers state governorship candidate of the party, Mrs. Beatrice Itubo, for not visiting her during his stopover in the state within the week.

Newsonline reports that Peter Obi apologized that he was not informed or aware that she was sick while he visited the state.

Recall that Peter Obi was in the state on Thursday to commission the Ikoku flyover constructed by Governor Nyesom Wike.

The former governor of Anambra State, however, failed to pay courtesy to the party’s gubernatorial candidate.

Obi wrote in a statement, “My sincere apologies to Mrs. Beatrice Itubo, the Labour Party candidate in Rivers State for an inadvertent oversight. When I visited Port Harcourt a few days back, I was not informed or aware of her sickness.

On arrival in PH, I was welcomed by the Labour Party Presidential State Coordinator in Rivers State and other Party stakeholders. We had a useful meeting and I explained to them the purpose of my visit, which was to respectfully honour an invitation by the Rivers State Government and that I will return for our party’s rally and other LP engagements soon. No one mentioned that our candidate was sick, otherwise I would have visited her before or after the event.”

He added, “I had committed to passing through the campaign office no matter how late, and that I did at about 6.30pm. My dear sister, I sincerely wish you a very quick recovery and reassure you of our good working relationship. May God Almighty bless you always.”

Recall that Newsonline had reported that the Labour Party presidential candidate had been accused of betraying the candidates of his party in the state by Reno Omokri, for his statement in Rivers state at the commissioning of Ikoku flyover.

Peter Obi while speaking at the commissioning event, begged Wike to leave the federal positions for the Labour Party while his party will leave the state for his party’s (PDP) candidates.

Reacting to Obi’s statement, Reno Omokri, a former aide to ex-president Goodluck Jonathan, accused the former governor of Anambra State of being self-centered and betraying the party’s candidates in Rivers state.
