The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has surrendered to pressure from citizens who have been raising issues of underage voters registered in mostly Northern part of the country.

Newsonline reports that INEC had been accused by citizens of blocking them on Twitter from raising concerns about underage voters which allegedly filled the voters’ register displayed by the commission on its website.

Recall that INEC voters register which was published days ago has been object of discussion for citizens and political experts following alleged cases of underage voting and multiple registrations.

Following call-outs of INEC by Nigerians on Twitter, the commission allegedly blocked some of the citizens.

Following the call out by citizens that INEC has been blocking them, Inibehe Effiong, a Public Interest and Human Rights Lawyer, demanded on citizens who were blocked by INEC send him evidence for legal action against the commission.

“If you have been blocked (or you were blocked and later unblocked) from following the verified Twitter handle of @inecnigeria reach out to me or indicate under this tweet immediately with evidence,” Inibehe wrote on his Twitter handle.

Minutes after his call for evidence to process legal action against the electoral umpire, INEC unblocked the citizens.

Nkem who had earlier called out INEC wrote on her Twitter an appreciation that INEC has unblocked her.

“Inec Nigeria has unblocked me. Thank you Obidients for voicing out on my behalf. Thank you very much sir Inibehe Effiong,” she wrote.
