Former Prime Minister of Britain, Theresa May has reacted to the resignation of Liz Truss after 44 days in office.

Newsonline reported that Liz Truss who was elected as leader of the Conservative Party and British parliament resigned on Thursday citing her inability to achieve the mandate upon which she was elected.

Liz Truss said she would remain the occupier of No 10, Downing Street as Prime Minister until the parliament elects a new leader.

“MPs must now be prepared to compromise. It is our duty to provide sensible, competent government at this critical moment for our country,” May added.

Liz Truss listed the achievements of her 44 days administration saying, “We delivered on energy bills and on cutting national insurance.

“We have continued to stand with Ukraine and to protect our own security.

“And we set out a vision for a low-tax, high-growth economy – that would take advantage of the freedoms of Brexit.”

Liz added, “I recognize however that, given the situation, I cannot deliver the mandate on which I was elected by the Conservative Party.”

She said, “I have therefore spoken to His Majesty The King to notify him that I am resigning as Leader of the Conservative Party.

“There will be a leadership election to be completed in the next week.

“This will ensure we remain on a path to deliver our fiscal plans and maintain our country’s economic stability and national security.

“I will remain as Prime Minister until a successor has been chosen.”
