Shettima has acknowledged economic hardship and urged Nigerians to re-elect Tinubu in 2027.
NewsOnline Nigeria reports that Vice President Kashim Shettima has acknowledged the economic hardship Nigerians are experiencing following the Federal Government’s economic reforms but appealed to voters to re-elect President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 general elections.
Shettima made the appeal on Sunday at the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential campaign rally held at the U.J. Esuene Stadium in Calabar, Cross River State, where he defended the administration’s policies and argued that the benefits of the reforms were beginning to emerge despite the difficulties faced by citizens.
The Vice President compared Tinubu’s leadership approach to that of Singapore’s former Prime Minister, Lee Kuan Yew, noting that difficult decisions were sometimes necessary to achieve long-term national development.

He urged Nigerians to evaluate the administration’s performance against the economic conditions it inherited when it assumed office in 2023, insisting that the reforms required more time to deliver their expected results.
Shettima also called on voters in Cross River State to support the re-election of Tinubu, Governor Bassey Otu and Deputy Governor Peter Odey, as well as APC candidates seeking legislative seats in the 2027 elections.
Governor Otu, who addressed the rally, highlighted several Federal Government infrastructure projects expected to benefit the state, including the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, the proposed Bakassi Deep Seaport and the proposed Gulf of Guinea Commission Secretariat in Calabar.
According to him, the projects could improve transportation, attract investments and create employment opportunities for residents of the state.
Otu urged Cross River residents to support the APC at all levels in the next general elections, adding that the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND) was among the Federal Government’s interventions designed to reduce the financial burden of tertiary education on families.
The rally attracted Senate President Godswill Akpabio, members of the National Assembly, APC governors, party officials and other political stakeholders who gathered to mobilise support for the party ahead of the 2027 elections.
