APC has insisted that Uzodimma remains Imo West Senatorial Candidate after court ruling.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that the Imo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has insisted that Governor Hope Uzodimma remains its candidate for the Imo West Senatorial District election ahead of the 2027 general elections, despite a reported Federal High Court ruling recognising former governor Rochas Okorocha.

The party stated its position in a statement issued on Thursday by its State Publicity Secretary, Onwuasoanya FCC Jones, describing reports that Uzodimma had been replaced as the party’s candidate as unverified.

The development follows reports that a Federal High Court in Abuja, presided over by Justice Obiora Egwuatu, ordered the APC to recognise Okorocha as its candidate for the Imo West senatorial seat after ruling on a dispute over the party’s primary election.

However, the Imo APC maintained that Uzodimma won the party’s senatorial primary with the overwhelming support of its members.

In the statement, the party said it was aware of reports circulating on social media and being shared by opposition figures concerning an alleged change in its candidate for the district.

“The party wishes to state without any confusion that His Excellency Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodimma, CON, remains the candidate of our Party for Imo West Senatorial District, having won the primaries of our great party with the overwhelming support of the majority of our party members,” the statement read.

The party added that its legal department would study the outcome of the court proceedings and take appropriate action.

“The party’s legal department shall study the outcome of a legal intervention in this matter and act accordingly,” it stated.

The Imo APC also urged its members and supporters to remain focused and continue working towards the party’s electoral success across constituencies in the state.

The conflicting positions set the stage for further legal and political developments over the APC’s candidate for Imo West Senatorial District ahead of the 2027 elections.
