Donald Trump Supports My Plan To Return Fuel Subsidy – Atiku

Atiku has stated that Donald Trump’s Energy Policy support his fuel subsidy restoration plan.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that the African Democratic Congress presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, has claimed that the energy policy of United States President Donald Trump supports his proposal to restore fuel subsidies in Nigeria.

Atiku, who has pledged to introduce a new fuel subsidy model if elected president in 2027, made the assertion in a statement issued on Sunday by his spokesperson, Phrank Shaibu.

The statement, titled “Atiku Boasts of Stakeholders, Trump Support on Fuel Subsidy,” explained that the proposed policy would focus on supporting domestic production and refining rather than subsidising imported petroleum products.

According to Atiku, the production-based subsidy would help increase local supply, reduce fuel prices and ensure that Nigerians benefit directly at petrol stations.

“This is why my Production Subsidy is about putting money back into people’s pockets. Support what we produce and refine here, increase supply, monitor the price and make sure Nigerians feel the benefit at the pump,” he said.

The former vice president cited the position of the Crude Oil Refinery Owners Association of Nigeria, CORAN, which has advocated greater support for domestic petroleum production.

“CORAN is saying support domestic production. America understands the importance of supporting strategic energy production,” he added.

Atiku also accused President Bola Tinubu’s administration of opposing economic relief for ordinary Nigerians while granting waivers, incentives and concessions to multinational oil companies and businesses allegedly connected to the government.

“Why does intervention suddenly become bad economics when ordinary Nigerians are meant to benefit?” he asked.

Atiku’s remarks draw a comparison between his proposed production subsidy and the United States’ support for strategic energy production; the statement did not cite a direct public endorsement of his plan by Trump.
