Zoho has added agentic AI tools to catalyst and made the platform free for students.
NewsOnline Nigeria reports that Zoho Corporation has introduced major agentic artificial intelligence capabilities to Catalyst by Zoho, its Platform-as-a-Service offering, to help developers turn AI-generated code into production-ready applications.
The enhancements include Catalyst Agent Skills, a non-interactive command-line interface and Model Context Protocol support, alongside integrations with AI coding assistants such as Anthropic’s Claude Code and OpenAI’s Codex.
Zoho also announced that Catalyst would be completely free for students developing non-commercial applications, with no subscription or credit card required.
Eligible students will receive access to full-stack hosting, functions, databases and AI development tools, enabling them to build and deploy complete applications on the platform.

Catalyst is designed to bridge the gap between generating code with AI and deploying reliable applications by providing coding assistants with a structured full-stack serverless environment.
Developers can continue using their preferred AI coding tools while Catalyst provides the underlying infrastructure, deployment workflows and governance controls.
Zoho said this approach would reduce the need to combine multiple cloud services and vendors, helping developers minimise technology sprawl, operational overhead and governance complexity.
The platform is targeted at system integrators, software companies and independent developers seeking to move applications from prototypes to production without managing the underlying infrastructure themselves.
Speaking on the announcement, Zoho Nigeria Country Head Kehinde Ogundare said AI coding assistants had significantly accelerated software development, but deploying generated code reliably remained a challenge.
“In a very short period of time, AI coding assistants have transformed how quickly applications can be created, but moving that code into production reliably remains a challenge,” Ogundare said.
“Developers still spend significant time managing infrastructure and bringing together separate cloud services. With Catalyst, we are reducing that friction by providing an agent-ready, serverless full-stack platform that helps developers build, deploy and scale intelligent applications with greater control and less operational overhead.”
Agent Skills Guide AI Coding Assistants
Zoho said Catalyst Agent Skills gives AI coding assistants the context required to understand the platform’s services, architecture and recommended development patterns.
Rather than leaving an AI model to independently determine how Catalyst should be used, Agent Skills directs the assistant towards appropriate capabilities and workflows, helping it generate more accurate and verifiable outputs.
The Catalyst Agent Skills repository describes the offering as a collection of skills that gives AI coding agents deeper knowledge of Catalyst’s services, software development kits and recommended practices.
The non-interactive CLI enables AI coding assistants to complete multi-stage workflows without requiring human input at every point, helping developers move more quickly from coding to deployment.
Catalyst’s MCP server also gives AI assistants direct access to platform capabilities from development environments such as Visual Studio Code, Claude Code, Cursor and other AI-enabled integrated development environments.
Tasks such as creating a database table or adding a column can therefore be completed within the developer’s existing environment without switching to the Catalyst console.
Zoho said orchestration built into Agent Skills routes requests through the appropriate CLI or MCP pathway, reducing the likelihood of incorrect tool selection.
The company has made its AI skills available through an open-source repository, allowing developers to inspect and contribute to them.
Zoho is also open-sourcing Catalyst’s software development kit, CLI and its lightweight JavaScript framework, Slyte.
Human Oversight Retained for Deployment
As AI takes on a greater role in application development, Zoho said Catalyst would retain human oversight within the deployment process.
Development and production environments remain separate, while code must be promoted to production manually. This prevents AI agents from directly accessing production environments.
Scoped collaborator controls allow teams to determine who—or what—can participate in development and specify the actions they are permitted to perform.
Catalyst also provides audit trails containing application, platform and MCP tool-call logs, allowing developers to track actions taken by AI agents and when they occurred.
Changes made after an application launches are versioned, attributable and reversible, according to Zoho.
Applications built on Catalyst operate within Zoho’s data centres and inherit security measures including distributed denial-of-service protection, web application firewalls, compliance controls, vulnerability assessments and penetration testing.
Pricing and Availability
Catalyst by Zoho is available for immediate use and offers developers a monthly free tier for exploring the platform.
Zoho said users seeking to build more extensively would also receive ₦192,500 in free credits spread across six months.
The platform operates a pay-as-you-go pricing model, with features charged according to usage rather than an additional licence fee.
Developers can monitor consumption through the Catalyst console and set budget alerts and spending limits to reduce the risk of unexpected bills. A structured subscription option is also available to teams seeking more predictable costs.
For students building non-commercial applications, Catalyst is completely free, with no subscription or credit card required.
Zoho said removing the cost barrier would allow students to move beyond learning how to write code and gain practical experience building and deploying complete applications.
The company said it does not operate an advertising-revenue model across its products and owns and manages its data centres to maintain oversight of customer data privacy and security.
Zoho currently serves more than 150 million users and over one million paying organisations globally.
