Army Denies Report of Bandit Attack in Kwara, Says No Weapons Lost

Okoye clarified that troops of the 148 Battalion (Rear), who are currently conducting clearance operations across Kogi and Kwara States, have continued to record major operational victories against criminal elements.

Army has denied the report of bandit attack in Kwara, says no weapons lost.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that the Nigerian Army has debunked reports claiming that bandits overran its troops in Obanla, Kwara State, and carted away six General Purpose Machine Guns (GPMGs) and over 30,000 rounds of ammunition.

In a statement issued by Lieutenant Colonel Polycarp Okoye, Deputy Director of Army Public Relations, 2 Division, Nigerian Army, the military described the report as false, misleading, and aimed at undermining public confidence.

Okoye clarified that troops of the 148 Battalion (Rear), who are currently conducting clearance operations across Kogi and Kwara States, have continued to record major operational victories against criminal elements.

“Contrary to the sensational claims, the troops mounted a strong blocking position along the Kwara–Ekiti border axis, where they neutralized two armed bandits and recovered two brand new AK-47 rifles,” the statement read.

The Army spokesperson emphasized that no military position was overrun, nor was any weapon or ammunition seized by criminals. He described the viral publication as “a fabrication designed to misinform the public and dampen troop morale.”

He urged Nigerians to disregard the fake report and continue to support ongoing security operations with credible intelligence.

“The Nigerian Army remains committed to decisively tackling all forms of criminality across the country. We will sustain the tempo of operations until all criminal networks in Kogi, Kwara, and neighbouring states are dismantled,” Okoye assured.
