Yakubu Dogara has reacted to his rumoured Tinubu running mate role.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that Former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, has reacted to speculations that he may emerge as President Bola Tinubu’s running mate in the 2027 general election, saying leadership and nation-building have never depended on perfect individuals.

Dogara said history has shown that societies are built and sustained by ordinary people, not flawless leaders, stressing that while he is not perfect, he possesses valuable political experience and pedigree.

He made the remarks on Sunday during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today programme when asked about the possibility of serving as a vice-presidential candidate.

According to the former Speaker, all his achievements are by the grace of God, adding that he remains constantly aware of his imperfections despite his years in public service.

Dogara highlighted his tenure as Speaker of the House of Representatives, where he served as the fourth-highest public officer in Nigeria, noting that the position exposed him to critical aspects of governance and national leadership.

He explained that the role afforded him insights and responsibilities that many Nigerians may never encounter.

“I honestly don’t know why I’m being asked these questions, but let me say this: I don’t think I’m ever prepared for anything,” Dogara said.

“What I know is that everything I am is by the grace of God. I consider myself unprepared, though I have some rich pedigree. I’ve served as Speaker of the House of Representatives, being number four in a country of about 200 million people. There are certain things I know that many people don’t know, but I also know that I’m not perfect.”

Dogara’s comments come amid growing political speculations ahead of the 2027 general elections.
