2027: Obi-Atiku Merger No Threat To Tinubu – Presidency

“They are jumping the gun. It’s not yet time for politicking,” Onanuga said. “The merger we had in 2013 that formed the APC was not disruptive to governance like what these people are doing now.”

Obi-Atiku Merger

Presidency has claimed that Obi-Atiku merger is not a threat to Tinubu ahead of upcoming 2027 presidential election.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that President Bola Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, has dismissed the proposed alliance between former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and Labour Party’s Peter Obi, declaring that their combined presidential ticket poses no threat to the Tinubu-led government in the 2027 elections.

Speaking during an interview on Arise Television’s Prime Time on Thursday, Onanuga stated that the All Progressives Congress (APC) remains unshaken by the speculated coalition, insisting that Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima would comfortably defeat any opposition pairing.

“They are jumping the gun. It’s not yet time for politicking,” Onanuga said. “The merger we had in 2013 that formed the APC was not disruptive to governance like what these people are doing now.”

He emphasized that while citizens are free to form political alliances in a democracy, the APC does not consider the Atiku-Obi partnership a serious challenge.

“As far as the APC is concerned, we are not seeing the coalition as any threat,” Onanuga added. “Even if you merge Peter Obi and Atiku together, there is no way the two of them can beat a Bola Tinubu and Shettima ticket — it is not going to be possible.”
