Again, the ruling All Progressive Congress, APC, has lost three of its senators from Katsina, Bauchi, and Edo to the opposition parties as the 2023 general draws near.

Newsonline reports that the three senators presented notices of their resignation and defection letters separately to the Senate President, Ahmad Lawal, during plenary on Tuesday.

The three lawmakers are Senators Ahmad Babba Kaita, representing, Katsina North, President Buhari senatorial district, Lawal Yahaya Gumau, representing Bauchi South senatorial district, and Francis Alimikhena, representing Edo North senatorial district.

While Senators Babba Kaita and Francis Alimikhena defected from the ruling All Progressive Congress, APC, to the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Gumau defected from APC to the New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP.

Senator Babba Kaita in his letter said his resignation was a result of marginalization by the Kastina State government and the leadership of the ruling APC in Katsina.

Babba Kaita’s notice of resignation and defection read: “As Senator representing Katsina North Senatorial District, I write to formally notify you of my resignation from the All Progressives Congress, APC, and registration declaration for the Peoples Democratic Party.

“My resignation from the APC was born out of the marginalization of critical stakeholders by the State Government and Leadership of the Party in Katsina State, where small people like me do not have a chance.

“I have since been joyful and graciously accepted into the fold of the Peoples Democratic Party in Katsina State.”
