Yahaya Bello has urged Kogi Lawmakers to support Governor Ododo’s Leadership.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that Former Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, has urged members of the State House of Assembly elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to give their full support to Governor Usman Ododo’s administration for the sake of political stability and development.

Bello made the call while receiving a delegation of APC lawmakers led by the State Auditor-General, Yusuf Okala, at his Abuja residence. The team presented Hassan Shado, the newly elected member representing Okura State Constituency, who recently won the by-election.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had declared Shado winner after he polled 55,073 votes, defeating candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), who scored 1,038 votes, and the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), who secured 445 votes.

In a viral video from the meeting, Bello, who handed over power to Ododo in January 2024, admonished Shado to work in harmony with his colleagues and the executive arm of government.

“This democracy is not the way people describe it. Somebody recommended you, and if things had gone differently, you may not have emerged. That’s the truth,” Bello said.

He further cautioned the lawmaker to avoid being misled into unnecessary confrontation with the executive.

“Tomorrow, somebody may tell you, ‘Why are you there? Are you just a stooge? You are an assembly member; exert your position.’ They will try to pit you against the executive. But democracy doesn’t work that way,” the former governor added.
