Wike vs Atiku: Ayu, BoT Chair, Atiku All North; Ayu Must Leave- Walid Jibrin

The Board of Trustee (BoT) Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Walid Jibrin has re-emphasized that the party national chairman, Iyorchia Ayu must leave his position to please Nyesom Wike.

Newsonline reports that Jibrin said it would not be fair for the national chairman, board of trustee chairman and the presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar to all come from the North.

The PDP seems to be realizing its political miscalculation, when it in May gave Atiku Abubakar, its presidential ticket ahead of the 2023 general election, against what Peter Ayodele Fayose said was against the PDP constitution.

On June 29, Ayo Fayose, former governor of Ekiti State, completely disagreed with the PDP for giving Atiku their presidential ticket.

Fayose said, “The PDP Constitution provides for a rotational Presidency. Section 3(c) provides that the Party shall pursue its aims & objectives by “adhering to the policy of the rotation & zoning of Party & Public elective offices in pursuance of the principle of equity, justice and fairness.”

He added that “The current President of Nigeria is a 2-term Northern Presidency, thus implying that it MUST be a Southern Presidency in 2023 or NOTHING. Awa ‘South’ lo kan’. Nigerians should await details soon.

Nigerians are actually getting the details from Newsonline, since the PDP got engrossed in internal rivalries after the end of its presidential primary election in May.

Speaking on Channels Television, the BoT chairman, Walid Jibrin, maintained the call which was earlier made by a chieftain of the party Bode George, that Ayu must resign from his position as party national chairman.

The call for the resignation of Ayu was to pacify the governor of Rivers State, Nyesom Wike who has described Atiku as enemy and is ready to “crush those who hold meetings aginst him with his enemies in Abuja”.

Jibrin said, “To tell the truth, it will not be fair for the Presidential candidate to be from the North and the party Chairman to be from the North and the BoT Chairman also from the North,” Jibrin said on Channels Television.

He added, “but look at what is there, I have a tenure of five years and I’ve spent four and a half years already. Only six months remaining for me but I know I can go any time. Definitely, I can sacrifice my position.

“If an election has been held and Atiku has been declared as president in 2023, why would he [Ayu] not leave. Whether he likes it or not, he must leave.

“For me, I’m too eager to leave. What I’m saying is that we should wait until this committee set up to reconcile Wike and Atiku has finished their work, then we’ll now go ahead to address the other complaints. Asking him to resign now will not answer the question.”
