Wike has fined Ganduje, Oyinlola, Idiagbon Family, and NNPC among others N5m each over Abuja Property Conversions.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has imposed a ₦5 million fine on several high-profile Nigerians and institutions for the unlawful conversion of residential properties into commercial use in Abuja.

In a public notice published in national dailies, the FCT Administration ordered all affected individuals and organizations to pay the penalty within 30 days, setting September 10, 2025, as the deadline.

The sanction followed a comprehensive review of land use conditions on 15 major streets across Maitama, Asokoro, Wuse 2, Garki 1, and Garki 2.

Among those penalized is former APC National Chairman Abdullahi Ganduje, who was cited for converting a residential property in Wuse 2 into a banking hall without authorization. The family of late military ruler General Tunde Idiagbon was fined after his Maitama home was turned into Serendib Hotel and Suites, while former Osun State Governor Olagunsoye Oyinlola was sanctioned for converting land at Yakubu Gowon Crescent, Asokoro, into Zhouyi Hotel.

Two former Chief Justices of Nigeria, Atanda Fatai-Williams and Aloma Mariam Mukhtar were also penalized for converting their residential properties into commercial outlets. Others on the list include Senator Shehu Sani, former Governors Forum DG Okauru Okauru, and retired military officer Lt. Gen. Rufus Kupolati, all accused of turning homes into showrooms, gyms, and other business ventures.

Institutions were not spared, as the NNPC, the Nigeria Police, and former FCT Minister Abba Gana were also sanctioned for similar violations.

Wike further directed that new title documents be issued to the sanctioned property owners once they meet all conditions, with the updated land use valid for 99 years.
