Wike has approved the promotion of 49 Deputy Directors to Directors.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has approved the promotion of 49 Deputy Directors to the rank of Directors across different departments of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA).

The promotions followed the results of the first-ever computer-based promotion examination conducted by the FCT Civil Service Commission on August 12, 2025, at the National Open University, Duste-Alhaji Centre in Bwari Area Council.

In a statement on Tuesday, the Minister’s Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, Lere Olayinka, said the exercise was part of efforts to clear the backlog of promotions for Grade Level 16 officers between 2023 and 2025.

Chairman of the FCT Civil Service Commission, Emeka Eze, explained that the newly promoted Directors would fill 49 out of the 63 available vacancies across different cadres.

Breakdown of Promotions by Cadre:

  • Education Officer Cadre: 20 slots (highest number, with 820 applicants competing)

  • Accountant Cadre: 9 slots

  • Admin Cadre: 10 slots (12 candidates competed)

  • Civil Engineer Cadre: 1 slot

  • Social Welfare Cadre: 1 slot

  • Tourism Cadre: 1 slot

  • Fisheries Cadre: 1 slot

  • Medical Officers Cadre: 1 slot

Eze noted that the Education Officer cadre recorded the largest pool of applicants, while other cadres had limited vacancies.

Minister Wike had earlier directed the adoption of a technology-driven approach for the exercise, leading the Commission to deploy the Computer-Based Test (CBT) model, with 60 percent set as the pass mark.
