Around the early 1970s, the Brobergs first met the Berchtold family as their new neighbors in Pocatello, Idaho, only for their immediate friendship. The two children then attended church meetings, family dinners, and even travel together until Jan (born July 1962) began to consider Berchtolds patriarch Robert as her second father. However, he gradually developed an obsession with her and also managed to seduce her parents before convincing them that he needed to sleep next to her child. bed “Reason for treatment.”

Then, on October 17, 1974, Robert kidnapped the 12-year-old girl after telling her family he was going to take her on a horse ride – Jane woke up tied to the bed in his mobile home on the way to Mexico. There, he sexually assaulted the eldest of his three daughters brainwashing She believes she is a half-alien who needs to save the species by giving birth to his child before she turns 16. In fact, Jane was told that if she didn’t, one of her sisters would have to take her place, or her entire family would go blind/die, meaning she felt she had no choice but to follow through.

The truth is that Robert even tried to marry a preteen girl in Mexico, when the legal age in the country was 12 at this time, only to have local officials rescue her five weeks later. One of the most puzzling aspects, though, was that the married father then manipulated Jane to keep silent about the attack, rather than having her parents bring high-profile charges, which worked. But unfortunately, he kidnapped her again in August 1974 – he hide her This time at a girls’ Catholic school in Pasadena, California, that is, until the FBI finally caught up with him four months later.

Where is Jan Broberg now?

So this simple step gave way to her recovery, and she eventually evolved into an actress, singer, dancer, and writer; her book, Stolen Innocence: The Jane Broberg Story, was published in 2003.We should mention that abuse survivors/child advocates have actually since then persist in Neither she nor her family were stupid or careless; it’s just that they ended up blindly trusting the wrong people.
