Over the weekend, the Urhobo Federated Council (UFC) paid a solidarity visit to Olorogun Joe Orode Omene, former President General of the Urhobo Progress Union (UPU), lauding his unwavering advocacy for the growth and progress of the Urhobo nation.

During the visit, UFC Acting President, Mr. Oturhobore Felix Oghenekevwe, called on the Urhobo people to embody the spirit of their popular chant, “Urhobo ovuọvo,” especially in matters concerning their collective interest.

Expressing concerns over the recent establishment of five multi-million-naira LNG mini-plants in Kogi State, Oghenekevwe criticized the exclusion of Urhobo land—despite being home to some of the country’s richest gas and crude oil deposits. He appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to reconsider the allocation and ensure that at least two of these plants are sited in Urhobo land, in line with the administration’s Renewed Hope agenda.

In a show of trust and unity, the UFC unanimously adopted Olorogun Omene as their Patron, pledging unwavering commitment to advancing the interests of the Urhobo people.

In his response, Olorogun Omene urged the group to remain steadfast in their mission, emphasizing that the pursuit of Urhobo development should transcend political affiliations.

Omene also commended Delta State Governor, H.E. Sheriff Oborevwori, for his infrastructural advancements across the state, particularly in Urhobo communities. He acknowledged the governor’s commitment to development and urged continued support for policies that benefit the region.
