Tinubu Lifts State of Emergency in Rivers, Orders Fubara, Odu, Lawmakers to Resume Duties

President Tinubu has lifted the state of emergency in Rivers and orderd Fubara, Odu, and Lawmakers to resume duties.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that President Bola Tinubu has lifted the six-month state of emergency imposed on Rivers State, directing Governor Siminalayi Fubara, his deputy Ngozi Nma Odu, and members of the Rivers State House of Assembly to resume their official duties on Thursday, September 18.

In a statement issued by the Presidency on Wednesday, Tinubu confirmed that the emergency rule, declared earlier this year to stabilize the oil-rich state, would formally end at midnight.

“It gives me great pleasure to declare that the emergency in Rivers State of Nigeria shall end with effect from midnight today,” the President stated.

He added that Governor Fubara, Deputy Governor Odu, Speaker Martins Amaewhule, and members of the state assembly are to return to their offices beginning Thursday.

Tinubu had declared the emergency rule six months ago amid heightened political tensions in the state.
