South-East Governors Name Second Niger Bridge After Muhammadu Buhari

South-East Governors has named the newly commissioned second Niger Bridge after Muhammadu Buhari.

NewsOnline reports that South-East governors have resolved to name the Second Niger Bridge after President Muhammadu Buhari.

The Special Assistant to the President on Digital Communications, Bashir Ahmad, made this known in a tweet on Tuesday.

The Bridge is one of the legacy projects of the Buhari-led administration commissioned today.

“The Second Niger Bridge is to officially be called/known as Buhari Second Niger Bridge. The Muhammadu Buhari Bridge is officially commissioned today, by President Muhammadu Buhari. #PMBLegacy,” Ahmad wrote on his Twitter handle @BashirAhmaad.

Also, Tolu Ogunlesi, the Special Assistant to President Buhari on digital/new media, confirmed the development on his Twitter post on Tuesday.

He wrote: “Following consultations, the Governors of the South-East have agreed that the Second Niger Bridge shall be named the Muhammadu Buhari Second Niger Bridge.”

The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has, however, kicked against the decision to name the bridge after Buhari.

In a statement by its Media and Publicity Secretary, Emma Powerful, IPOB rejected the idea claiming that Buhari has sidelined people of the South-East since he came to power.

The construction of the Second Niger Bridge is a 1.6 km long structure furnished with other ancillary infrastructure including a 10.3 km highway, Owerri interchange, and a toll station all at Obosi town in Anambra State.

Buhari commissioned seven legacy other projects completed by the Federal Ministry of Works and Housing across the country, which include: Loko-Oweto Bridge in Nasarawa State, Ikom Bridge in Cross River, Kaduna-Kano road, Federal Secretariats in Zamfara, Anambra and Bayelsa states and Wagon Assembly Plant in Kajola, Ogun State.
