NewsOnline Nigeria reports that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has nominated three prominent security and diplomatic experts to serve as Nigeria’s non-career ambassadors to the United States, the United Kingdom, and France. The announcement was made on Wednesday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
The nominees which include Ambassador Ayodele Oke, retired Colonel Lateef Kayode Are, and Ambassador Amin Mohammed Dalhatu will assume their roles after screening and confirmation by the Senate.
Ambassador Dalhatu is the only former envoy among the trio, having served as Nigeria’s ambassador to South Korea under former President Muhammadu Buhari. Appointed in 2016, he oversaw improved bilateral cooperation between Nigeria and South Korea during his tenure.
Ambassador Ayodele Oke, a seasoned diplomat and former Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA), holds a degree from Emory University in Atlanta. He previously represented Nigeria at the Commonwealth Secretariat in London and is widely respected for his deep expertise in intelligence and foreign affairs.
Retired Colonel Lateef Kayode Are brings a formidable national security background to the diplomatic lineup. He served as Director-General of the State Security Service (SSS) from 1999 to 2007, later held the position of National Security Adviser in 2010, and was an officer of the Directorate of Military Intelligence. A notable academic achiever, Are graduated with First Class Honours in Psychology from the University of Ibadan in 1980.
Once confirmed, the three nominees are expected to strengthen Nigeria’s diplomatic influence and strategic partnerships in three of the world’s most important capitals.
