Kano’s LG Election.

The Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, Justice John Tsoho has warned fellow justices of the Federal High Courts to be careful with politicians who are desperate and shopping for justice.

Newsonline reports that Justice Tsoho said this on Tuesday while speaking at the Federal High Court Judges’ Conference in Abuja.

Justice Tsoho said this after the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Olukayode Ariwoola, declared open the conference.

CJN Ariwoola called on justices of the Federal High Courts to see the conference as an avenue for brothers to rub minds together for a better judicial system.

Ariwoola said, “the judges’ conference is for brother judges. In a close door session to rub minds, tooth and tail, discuss closely how to move forward on how to tackle the challenges facing the court.”

Justice Tsoho in a welcome address re-emphasized that FHC being an important point of call for politicians, especially in the election season, Justices must be careful not to be dragged into it, saying “these are slippery times, as many politicians are prone to be desperate.”

Justice Tsoho also advised the Federal High Court justices to recall that all pre-election cases must be settled according to the stipulated time.

He said, “We must therefore ensure that we conclude all the pre-election cases and avert a situation where any of the cases will be caught up by time,”

Speaking further he said, “we must ensure that we do not get emotional or get dragged into their tussle,” adding that everything possible should be done to disappoint agents of disharmony and doom.”

The Federal High Court Chief Judge told the CJN that preparation has reached an advanced stage in the appointment of 15 additional judges to the bench of the court.

“This process will be quickly followed by a further appointment of nine judges subject to the approval of the National Judicial Council,” he said.
