How ARISE News Anchor Somtochukwu Maduagwu Died

Police has revealed how ARISE News Anchor Somtochukwu Maduagwu died in Abuja robbery.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that the Commissioner of Police, Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Ajao Adewale, has revealed fresh details on the tragic death of ARISE News anchor, Somtochukwu Maduagwu, who was killed during an armed robbery in Katampe, Abuja.

Speaking on Wednesday, Adewale confirmed that police patrol teams responded to a distress call at about 3:20am and found the journalist, popularly known as Sommie, unconscious. She was rushed to Maitama General Hospital where doctors attempted resuscitation, but she was later pronounced dead.

“The call came in and policemen moved swiftly to the scene. They found Somtochukwu Maduagwu lying motionless. She was rushed to Maitama General Hospital where doctors tried CPR, but sadly, she could not make it,” Adewale disclosed.

According to police, the robbers invaded Unique Apartments, a twin three-storey block of 18 flats, overpowering two private guards on duty. One guard was shot while attempting to resist the armed gang.

In the chaos, Maduagwu, who lived on the third floor, reportedly jumped out of fear from her apartment. “The consequence is what we are now witnessing,” Adewale noted.

The FCT Police Command has deployed a specialised investigation team, led by the Deputy Commissioner of Police, to track the culprits. Adewale assured Nigerians that justice would be served.

“We are already working with the leads at hand. The outcome of the investigation will be made public,” he stated, while dismissing claims of a surge in robberies across estates in Abuja.

The police chief commiserated with Maduagwu’s family, colleagues at ARISE News, and Nigerians, pledging that the command would not relent until those responsible are brought to justice.
