Northern Elders Forum, NEF, has cleared the fear of some voters that Peter Obi, Labour Party presidential candidate may divide the country if elected, stating that Peter Obi will not divide the country when he becomes president.

Newsonline reports that Northern Elder spokesman, Hakeem Baba-Ahmed who allayed the fears stated that Peter Obi’s presidency will not divide the country.

Hakeem Baba-Ahmed stated that Peter Obi’s presidency will only affect the country if he chooses to under-perform more than the current President Buhari administration.

Northern Elders also stated that no presidential candidate can divide the country, including Peter Obi if he does not win the presidency come 2023.

Hakeem Ahmed made the statement while responding to the comment of a tweet, @AnthonyAnya33, who wrote that he suspects that the North may be afraid Peter Obi will divide the country if he becomes president.

@AnthonyAnya33, wrote: “I understand why you’re scared… he will divide the country but ask yourself what if he fails to win do you think the country will remain one?”

In response to the Twitter user, Hakeem Baba-Ahmed wrote: “I am afraid you are wrong on both counts. Not Obi, no candidate will divide the country when he becomes President, unless he deliberately chooses to govern in a manner that infinitely dwarfs the current administration’s record.

“The country will not divide if Obi does not win either.”

The Northern Elders Forum has been accused of supporting Peter Obi presidential ambition by some Northerners who are of the opinion that Northern interest should come first in the 2023 general election.
