Two terms former governor of Edo State, Adams Oshiomhole, has stated that the relationship between him and the incumbent governor, Godwin Obaseki, is beyond politics, revealing that as a brother to him, he shared the same suite with Obaseki on foreign trips.
Newsonline reports that the former National Chairman of the All Progressive Congress (APC) Adams Oshiomhole stated that though he and Obaseki may disagree on politics, it did not affect their personal relationship.
Oshiomhole who stated this on Friday in an interview with a national daily, said what played out between him and Obaseki was a confirmation that only God would know the beginning and end of things and not humans.
Recall that Oshiomhole and Obaseki were at each other’s neck in the build-up to the second term election in Edo State, which made Obaseki defect to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Oshiomhole said, “For me, I have moved on. Obaseki remains my brother and friend. I have had the honour of working with him and God in his infinite power used me to ensure that he became the governor of Edo State.”

He added, “Sometimes, God wants us to know that He is the only one that is all-knowing. He is the only one who knows the beginning and the end. When, as human beings, everything seems to add up, we celebrate our intellect. But sometimes, God intervenes just for us to know that we don’t know it all and it is meant to remind us of our limited knowledge of life. He remains my brother and friend.”
The APC Chieftain further disclosed that “When I was governor and he worked under me, my relationship with him was not that of boss and subordinate. He was one of the very few who called me by my nickname. When we traveled together on foreign trips, we didn’t book different suites in a hotel. Instead, we shared the same suite in a hotel but slept in separate rooms. That’s how close we were.”
Oshiomhole clarification is coming ahead of the 2023 election, which will be keenly contested in Edo following the votes of the state would be shared between the PDP and APC.
While Oshiomhole would be working hard to deliver the state for Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the presidential candidate of the ruling APC, Governor Obaseki, would be expected by his party, the PDP, to deliver the state for Atiku Abubakar, the PDP presidential candidate.
