The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) national leadership, has snubbed the presidential candidates, Peter Obi and Atiku Abubakar, to invite Bola Tinubu as the only special guest to its National Conference.
Newsonline reports that the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential candidate will also be given the ‘Pillar of Democracy’ award.
In a letter of invitation dated, September 2, signed by NUJ National President, Chris Isiguzo, stated that Tinubu and his vice-presidential candidate, Kashim Shettima, would be the only guests on the occasion.
The letter titled, “Invitation to be sole special guest and speaker at the NUJ National conference for September 17, 2022”, said the invitation was in recognition of Tinubu’s contribution to democracy in the country.
The letter read, “I bring His Excellency the warmest wishes of the executive and members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists.

“In furtherance of the Union’s commitment to deepen democracy, aned open up thr civil space for national conversation especially as the country heads towards the 2023 elections, the NUJ is scheduled to hold a National Conference.
“The conference brings together all national Officers, state executives and its affiliates including NAWOJ and SWAN to aggregate issues and take a common position, In all, over 385 executives at the state and chapel levels will gather in Abuja on this important conference.
“Having carefully examined the prevailing political ecosystem, I convey this invitation requesting the esteemed presence of His Excellency and the Vice presidential candidate, Senator Sashim Shettima, to be our revered guests and speakers.
“One of the high points of the gathering would be the presentation of special platinum award to his excellency as the Pillar of Democracy.
“While we look forward to a favourable response, the NUJ is open to further dialogue on the details of the programme.
