NewsOnline Nigeria reports that the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited has confirmed a pipeline explosion near the Tebijor, Okpele, and Ikporo communities in the Gbaramatu Kingdom of Delta State.
The incident occurred at about 17:50 hours on Wednesday and was disclosed in a statement on Thursday by the Chief Corporate Communications Officer of NNPC Ltd., Andy Odeh.
According to Odeh, preliminary findings showed a pressure drop on the affected NNPC Gas Infrastructure Company (NGIC) pipeline, indicating a possible loss of containment that triggered the explosion.
“Our priority at this time is the safety of nearby communities and the protection of the environment,” he stated.
Odeh added that emergency response protocols had been activated, with NNPC working closely with authorities and community leaders to manage the situation and mitigate any potential impact.
He reaffirmed NNPC’s commitment to maintaining the highest safety and environmental standards.
“Further updates will be provided as more confirmed information becomes available,” the statement added.
