The Coalition of Northern Groups (CNGs) has advised President Muhammadu Buhari not to succumb to the resolution of UN Working Group on the release of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.

Newsonline reports that the Northern Coalition reinstated their call for the non-release of the IPOB leader on Monday after their annual general meeting.

The Northern groups also called on the United Nations to desist from interfering with Nigeria’s internal affairs.

Recall that the United Nations Working Group indicted Nigeria and Kenya governments for extrajudicial rendition of the leader of the secessionist group Nnamdi Kanu and also unlawful detention.

UN in the resolution called on the Federal government to release the IPOB leader from detention.

However, the Federal government of President Buhari was yet to release the IPOB leader or react to the UN’s resolution.

In a statement released on Monday by its Spokesman Abdul-Azeez Suleiman, the Coalition of Northern Groups called on the Federal government not to succumb to the UN Working Group resolution.

The communique “cautioned the UN to desist from allowing some of its officials drag it into international disrepute by interfering in particularly the matter of the trial of the IPOB leader, Nnamdi Kanu.”

The Coalition of Northern Groups “Cautioned the Nigerian authorities against succumbing to undue pressure from whatever quarter to avoid setting dangerous precedence in the country.”
