1. River State Governor, Nyesom Wike, who has been locked in a cold war with Alhaji Atiku Abubakar since the presidential candidate picked Delta State governor, Ifeanyi Okowa, as his running mate, has warned that he should not be blamed if the PDP loses the presidential contest. He, however, denied suing Atiku and the PDP over the party’s presidential primary, blaming Atiku’s camp for the move.

2. At least four people were killed in a clash between cattle dealers and members of the Odua Peoples Congress (OPC) in Ajase, Irepodun Local Government of Kwara State, on Friday. Some commercial vehicles and passengers plying the area were caught in the melee that lasted for hours.

3. Governor Simon Lalong of Plateau State has tendered an apology to the Catholic faithful over a remark he made while defending his appointment as Director-General of the All Progressives Congress Presidential Campaign Council. The governor had claimed the Pope him it was not wrong being the lead campaigner of the ruling party, especially over the Muslim-Muslim ticket.

4. President Muhammadu Buhari’s spokesman, Mallam Garba Shehu, has said the government has done all it can to meet the demands of Abuja-Kaduna train attackers. He said the terrorists’ leader demanded the release of his wife, newly born twins and seven other children who were in prison custody, noting that the government complied with the demand so the abducted victims could be released.

5. Crisis broke out on Friday between the Fulani and members of the Oodua Peoples Congress (OPC) in Ajase Ipo, Irepodun Local Government of Kwara State. There were gunshots while vehicles traveling through the highway were attacked. It was gathered that the fight started in Kaara market, Ajaase Ipo on Friday evening.

6. The Nigeria Police Force has dismissed a police officer, Corporal Opeyemi Kadiri with Force No. 509745, attached to Dolphin Divisional Headquarters, Lagos Police Command for gross misconduct, disobedience to lawful order, and assault on a member of the public captured in a viral video on August 3, 2022.

7. The presidential candidate of the Labour Party, Peter Obi, got a rousing welcome on Friday at the Holy Ghost Service of the 70th convention of the Redeemed Christian Church of God. The former Anambra State governor graced the fifth day of the convention at RCCG international headquarters along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

8. The Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC) has opposed the planned privatisation of public healthcare facilities in the country. The TUC President, Mr Festus Osifo, spoke while addressing newsmen at the end of the union’s National Administrative Council (NAC), Central Working Committee (CWC) and National Executive Council (NEC) meeting of the union on Friday in Abuja.

9. The Edo State Government has described as absolutely false a report by a civic-tech organization, BudgIT, that it owes its workers, insisting that it is up to date and consistent with payment of salaries. The government said that even local government council workers are not owed any salary.

10. The Police in Benue State have arrested two suspected kidnappers terrorising parts of the State. The suspects were said to specialise in kidnapping women in the State. One of their victims was a wife of a former local government chairman.
