1. The camps of the Peoples Democratic Party standard bearer, Atiku Abubakar and the Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, on Wednesday, protested the BBC report that there is no evidence to back the diploma forgery allegation against President Bola Tinubu. The BBC report concluded that the allegation that Tinubu submitted a forged CSU certificate to the INEC was false.

2. The International Monetary Fund, on Tuesday, commended the Nigerian government for removing the fuel subsidy but noted that efforts must be made to protect poor citizens from the high cost of living crisis. Specifically, the Washington-based lender said the Federal Government must complement the fuel subsidy removal with a set of policies that could help lower inflation and protect the most vulnerable citizens.

 

3. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has recovered a combined sum of N27,184,357,524.52 and $19,084,419.33 from three different money laundering cases, as further efforts are being made by the anti-graft agency to recover more illicit funds. The spokesperson for the EFCC, Dele Oyewale, made the developments known on Wednesday in Lagos.

4. Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu on Wednesday, vowed to keep fighting Hamas, saying that every member of the Palestinian militant group was “a dead man”. In his statement, Netanyahu expressed Israel’s intention to “destroy” Hamas following its surprise attack on Saturday.

5. The Labour Party’s Presidential candidate in the 2023 elections, Peter Obi, has urged President Bola Tinubu to tell Nigerians his true name and everything related to his educational career. The former governor of Anambra State said this on Tuesday in a press conference in Abuja and asked Tinubu to provide clear details about the schools he attended, whether he participated in the National Youth Service Corps, and if he changed his name at any point.

6. President Bola Tinubu has approved the appointment of chief executives in the agencies under the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy. This was contained in a statement issued by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale, on Wednesday.

7. Chief of Defence Staff, Christopher Musa, has tasked the troops of the Nigerian Army to find and kill Boko Haram terrorists before they attack Nigerians. Musa gave the order to troops of Operation Hadin Kai at the Maimalari cantonment, Maiduguri, the Borno State capital.

8. Solid Minerals Development Minister, Dele Alake has told governors banning mining activities in their states that they lack such a right. The minister likened a state regulating mining activities to the banning of oil exploration by any other entity other than the Federal Government. He spoke on Wednesday in Abuja.

9. The lawmaker representing Isa/Sabon Birni Federal Constituency of Sokoto State in the House of Representatives, Abdulkadir Jelani Danbuga is dead. The first-term member elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) reportedly died on Wednesday after an illness.

10. A yet-to-be-identified boy is currently in the custody of the Kogi State Police Command for allegedly burying his younger brother alive. The suspect claimed he was only carrying out the directive of his mother who allegedly asked him to punish his brother for stealing.
