1. The leadership of the Nigeria Labour Congress has concluded plans to embark on a two-day warning strike, with effect from September 5 to 6, 2023. NLC President, Joe Ajaero, who handed down the threat, in Abuja on Friday, warned that the union would mobilise its affiliates to embark on indefinite strike if the federal government does not take steps to address the excruciating pains Nigerians face at the moment.

2. President Bola Tinubu has approved the replacement of Victor Akinjo as the Ondo State representative nominated to the board of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC). The President directed that Akinjo be replaced with Otito Atikase. Tinubu also replaced Asi Oku Okang, the Cross River State nominee, with Orok Otuk Duke.

3. President Bola Tinubu has solicited the support of the United Nations in Nigeria’s fight against terrorism in light of its rippling effect on global peace, displacement of people and rising poverty. He made the appeal at an audience with the Under-Secretary General of the United Nations Office on Counter-Terrorism, Mr Vladimir Voronkov, at the State House on Thursday.

4. President Bola Tinubu has approved the appointment of Khalil Suleiman Halilu as the new Executive Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI). The announcement was contained in a statement issued on Friday by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale. The directive of the President indicated that the appointment takes immediate effect.

5. Nigeria’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom (UK), Sarafa Isola, has been recalled by President Bola Tinubu.
The notice of the recall of the envoy was contained in a letter issued by Yusuf Tuggar, Minister of Foreign Affairs.

6. The suspended Chairman of Ijebu-East Local Government Area of Ogun State, Wale Adedayo, is currently in the custody of the Department of State Services (DSS), in Abeokuta. Adedayo had been summoned by the DSS following allegations that Governor Dapo Abiodun had been diverting funds meant for the local governments in the State.

7. In the light of the escalating coups in Africa, with the West African subregion having the highest, the Federal Government has dismissed any fears of coup in Nigeria, saying the country has gone past a forceful takeover of government. It stressed that Nigerians had fully embraced democracy and that the country’s democratic institutions were becoming stronger.

8. The Chairman, Independent Petroleum Marketers Association of Nigeria, Rivers State Chapter, Joseph Obele, has enjoined the Federal Government to ensure that the nation’s refineries are fixed as planned. He stated that the cost of Premium Motor Spirit, PMS, also known as petrol, would crash below N200 per litre should the refineries become functional.

9. The Federal Government has disclosed plans to review and reduce tax waivers given to companies operating in Nigeria as total tax incentives hit N6tn annually. The Chairman of the Presidential Tax Reform Committee, Mr Taiwo Oyedele, who made the disclosure, said there would be a comprehensive tax waiver review.

10. The Federal Government has ordered all illegal miners across the country to vacate sites immediately. Minister of Solid Minerals Development, Mr Dele Alake, gave the warning during the graduation ceremony and presentation of starter packs to 30 graduating trainees under Batch 3 of the Ministry’s Programme on ‘Gemstone and Jewellery Master Training and Empowerment’.
