1. The frequent appearance of queues of desperate motorists at filling stations in search of Premium Motor Spirit, otherwise known as petrol, could affect the Christmas and New Year festivities, oil marketers stated on Friday. It was also gathered that oil marketers are now free to sell petrol at any rate as the Federal Government was no longer restraining them.

2. The Independent National Electoral Commission, yesterday approved the publication and release of guidelines for the conduct of political rallies, processions and campaigns as well as finances and election expenses of political parties, candidates and aspirants. Accordingly, it urged political parties to make registered voters the targets of their campaigns.

3. Residents of Gidan-Goga village in the Maradun Local Government Area of Zamfara State have begun to panic as the deadline given to them by bandits to pay a levy of N20m draws near. A bandits kingpin, Bello Turji had told the community that the N20m must be paid on or before Sunday this week.

4. President Muhammadu Buhari on Friday asked African leaders to tailor their educational system and academic curriculum towards Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) to enable Africa achieve full industrialization by the year 2030.

5. The Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions yesterday launched an investigation into alleged job racketeering in the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC). The committee’s chairman, Senator Ayo Akinyelure, said there were a series of petitions by aggrieved job seekers who alleged that NDDC’s management did not allow them carry out any documentation despite issuing them letters of employment.

6. Popular gospel singer and Welu Welu crooner, Sammie Okposo, has died. The musician slumped on Friday morning at the age of 51. However, according to the statement released by the deceased’s sibling, Hector Okposo, the family is consoled as Sammie is reportedly, happily singing with angels in heaven.

7. A Federal High Court will on February 6 2023 rule on an application by a former governor of Imo State, Senator Rochas Okorocha, seeking to quash the 17-count criminal charge filed against him by the Federal Government. Justice Ekwo fixed the date on Friday after Counsels in the matter adopted their
written addresses and other processes in their final arguments.

8. The long arm of the law yesterday caught up with a syndicate which posed as operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to defraud unsuspecting residents in Delta State, of huge sums of money. The suspects were arrested at a hotel in Asaba by the Delta State Police Decoy Squad in a sting operation.

9. Ahead of Senator Ademola Adeleke’s inauguration as the Governor of Osun State on Sunday, indigenes of Ede, Adeleke’s home town, are already in a joyous mood. It was gathered on Friday that all hotels and suites in the town had been fully booked, while most houses wore new looks as many residents gathered in groups to discuss the upcoming event.

10. Presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Tinubu has maintained that he will not grant the invitation by Arise News for a presidential town hall meeting. Tinubu made this assertion in a statement signed by Bayo Onanuga, the Director, Media & Publicity, APC Presidential Campaign Council on Friday.
