Inconsistent Enyimba fail to shine again

After winning their last two games in convincing fashion, Enyimba were overwhelming favourites to beat Remo Stars in Aba on Sunday but the eight-time champions needed a late equaliser to salvage a draw.

The People’s Elephant maintained second position on the Group A table despite the result but will need to show more consistency in the remaining three games of the regular season to secure a Super Six spot.

Bendel Insurance pick first win of second stanza

Despite maintaining top position in Group A, Bendel Insurance were winless in five consecutive games since the start of the second stanza with five draws.

The Benin Arsenals defeated El-Kanemi 2-1 to return to winning ways again. A place in the Super Six is now guaranteed for the Nigeria Premier Football League newcomers.

No away win recorded

The home teams were in no mood for complacency last weekend as they picked maximum points in their games.

Only the game between Enyimba and Remo Stars ended in a 1-1 draw.

Sunshine Stars end the rot

The Owena Waves ended a run of four games without a win by beating Group B leaders, Lobi Stars 1-0 at the Akure Sports Complex.

The win eased the pressure on coach Edith Agoye and put the club in a good position to fight for a Super Six spot.

It was the second consecutive defeats for Lobi Stars.

Bendel Insurance close in on clean sheet record

The Benin Arsenals are now three games away from equaling the Nigeria Premier Football League clean sheet record.

Akwa United set the record (18 games) two seasons ago. Bendel Insurance are unbeaten after 15 games this season.
