LASAA has come under fire over the allegations of improper transaction practices and has commenced staff probe.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that the Lagos State Signage and Advertisement Agency (LASAA) has launched an internal investigation following allegations that one of its staff members used a personal bank account to collect payments from customers for signage services, a move the agency described as a serious breach of ethics and financial protocol.

In a statement issued on Thursday, LASAA confirmed that it had identified the staff involved after the allegation surfaced on social media earlier in the week.

The agency emphasized that such conduct, if verified, would amount to a clear violation of Lagos State Civil Service regulations.

“The Agency views this allegation with utmost seriousness and wishes to state unequivocally that such actions, if verified, are contrary to the established financial and ethical procedures governing transactions within LASAA and the Lagos State Civil Service,” the statement read.

According to the agency, the Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Mr. Tokunbo Wahab, directed that the implicated staff member report to LASAA headquarters for immediate investigation and disciplinary proceedings.

The agency reiterated its commitment to transparency and accountability, stressing that all payments for its services must be made only through officially designated government channels.

“We appreciate the vigilance of members of the public who bring such matters to our attention. The Agency assures all stakeholders and clients that necessary corrective measures will be taken to uphold public trust and the integrity of our processes,” the statement added.

The controversy began after an X (formerly Twitter) user identified as @Bhadmoz (TrueBlue) alleged that LASAA had been receiving customer payments through a private bank account, issuing receipts that did not match the actual transaction amounts. The post, which tagged Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and other senior officials, quickly went viral.

Responding to the viral report, Commissioner Wahab confirmed via his X handle that the person involved was indeed a LASAA employee and had been directed to face disciplinary action.

He reaffirmed the Lagos State Government’s zero tolerance for unethical behaviour, warning that any public officer caught engaging in fraudulent or unprofessional conduct would face strict sanctions.

LASAA, an agency under the Ministry of Environment and Water Resources, is responsible for regulating and managing outdoor advertising and signage displays across Lagos State.

The agency assured that further updates on the investigation would be released in due course.
