NewsOnline Nigeria reports that the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, has expressed appreciation to Mike Arnold for publicly supporting him.
Kanu’s legal consultant, Aloy Ejimakor, disclosed this in a statement shared on his X account on Saturday.
Arnold had earlier criticised the Nigerian government, questioning why Kanu remains in custody while an Islamic cleric who reportedly placed a ₦1 million bounty on a pastor was not similarly prosecuted.
Reacting to the remarks, Kanu thanked Arnold for what he described as his courage in “shedding light on the truth” about him and the IPOB movement. He noted that such support is significant and rare.
In a message addressed to Arnold, Kanu commended his commitment to speaking out, adding that he often reflects on how events might have been different if more individuals had taken similar positions earlier.
“Dear Mike, I am writing to acknowledge your remarkable effort in shedding light on the truth about me and my people. Your commitment to the truth is commendable, and I often wonder how different things would be if more voices like yours had spoken up sooner,” the statement read.
He also assured Arnold of his support, praying for his protection and well-being.
Kanu, who has been at the centre of a prolonged legal battle with the Nigerian government, was in November 2025 sentenced to life imprisonment over terrorism-related charges.
