NewsOnline Nigeria reports that Zenith Bank Plc has announced the official launch of its subsidiary in Côte d’Ivoire, marking a major milestone in the bank’s Pan-African expansion strategy and deepening its footprint in Francophone West Africa.
The official opening ceremony, scheduled for Wednesday, April 29, 2026, is expected to attract top government officials, financial regulators, business leaders, and members of the diplomatic community from both Nigeria and Côte d’Ivoire, highlighting growing economic and investment ties between the two countries.
Licensed in December 2025 by the Ministry of Finance and Budget of Côte d’Ivoire and regulated by the UMOA Banking Commission, the new subsidiary will operate from its headquarters located at SCI Wall Street, Avenue Noguès, Plateau, Abidjan.
The bank said the launch is part of its strategic move to strengthen financial intermediation within the West African Economic and Monetary Union (WAEMU) and support cross-border trade and investment across the African continent.
Zenith Bank Côte d’Ivoire will focus on corporate banking, trade finance, local and offshore banking services, as well as structured financial solutions designed for businesses operating within Africa and globally.
Speaking on the development, the Group Managing Director/CEO of Zenith Bank Plc, Adaora Umeoji, said the launch aligns with the bank’s long-term vision of building a globally recognized African financial institution.
She stated: “The launch of Zenith Bank Côte d’Ivoire is a bold step in realising our vision of expanding strategically across Africa and connecting businesses to global opportunities. It opens a strategic corridor into Francophone West Africa and reinforces our commitment to facilitating trade, investment, and enterprise growth across the continent.”
The new subsidiary will be led by Cédric Tano, an experienced banking executive with over 20 years in the financial services sector.
According to him, the bank aims to combine international best practices with strong local expertise to support businesses, drive innovation, and contribute to the growth of the Ivorian economy and the wider WAEMU region.
The Côte d’Ivoire expansion is part of Zenith Bank’s broader continental growth plan. The bank also disclosed that it has commenced expansion processes into the Central African Economic and Monetary Community (CEMAC) region, with Cameroon serving as the entry point.
With operations already established in Nigeria, Ghana, Sierra Leone, The Gambia, the United Kingdom, France, the UAE, and China, Zenith Bank continues to position itself as a key player in connecting African markets with global financial opportunities.
Founded in 1990, Zenith Bank Plc remains one of Africa’s leading financial institutions, maintaining a strong capital base and a consistent record of financial performance in the Nigerian banking sector.
