Lagos Government is set to deploy surveillance drones by partnering with Air Force and Police to boost security in the state.

NewsOnline Nigeria reports that the Lagos State Government has unveiled plans to deploy surveillance drones in partnership with key security agencies to strengthen intelligence gathering and curb insecurity across the state.

The Executive Secretary and Chief Executive Officer of the Lagos State Security Trust Fund, Mr Ayodele Ogunsan, disclosed this on Monday during a press briefing to mark his first 100 days in office.

Ogunsan explained that the initiative will enhance aerial monitoring and improve rapid response to security threats in Nigeria’s commercial hub.

He revealed that the Trust Fund is set to sign a Memorandum of Understanding with the Nigerian Air Force and the Nigeria Police Air Wing to coordinate air-based security operations across Lagos.

According to him, the collaboration will involve the deployment of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs), commonly known as drones, to significantly expand surveillance coverage, enhance intelligence collection and improve operational coordination among security agencies.

“As Nigeria’s economic nerve centre, Lagos requires sustained investment in modern security infrastructure to safeguard lives, property and economic activities,” Ogunsan said.

Reviewing achievements within his first 100 days, he noted that the Trust Fund has strengthened its financial base through strategic fundraising and stakeholder engagement.

He disclosed that 80 new operational and patrol vehicles have been deployed to enhance security presence and response time statewide, with more vehicles expected in the coming months.

Ogunsan also announced that a private donor had pledged to construct a permanent office complex for the agency. In addition, efforts are underway to rehabilitate abandoned Armoured Personnel Carriers and return them to active service.

Looking ahead, he said the Trust Fund plans to roll out statewide training programmes for security personnel, focusing on professionalism, tactical efficiency and improved service delivery.

He reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to transparency, accountability, innovation and strategic partnerships, stressing that collaboration and technology will remain central to building a safer Lagos.
