Lagos Government has confirmed Baba Ijesha has been added to Sex Offenders Register after prison release.
NewsOnline Nigeria reports that the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency has confirmed that Nollywood actor Olanrewaju James, popularly known as Baba Ijesha, has been officially placed on the Lagos State Sex Offenders’ Register following the completion of his prison sentence for sexually assaulting a minor.
Baba Ijesha, convicted in 2021 for the sexual assault of a 14-year-old girl, was released on Saturday. He was seen in a vehicle looking relieved and stating that he “needed to rest” after regaining his freedom.

However, the Lagos State Government swiftly dispelled viral reports claiming that the Court of Appeal had cleared the actor of all charges. In a statement issued by the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Lawal Pedro (SAN), the government described the circulating claims as “false, misleading, and irresponsible.” Pedro stressed that Baba Ijesha’s conviction remains fully valid.
Reiterating this position in a statement posted on X on Sunday, the Lagos Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency quoted the Attorney-General as saying:
“Mr Olanrewaju James was not cleared of the offences of sexual assault and indecent treatment of a child.”
Pedro also condemned the false claims being promoted by actor Yomi Fabiyi, warning that such misinformation is capable of causing public alarm. He urged Lagos residents to disregard the fabricated reports, cautioning Fabiyi and any media platforms amplifying the claims to desist immediately.
The Attorney-General confirmed that, in accordance with Section 37 of the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency Law (2021), Baba Ijesha’s name has now been entered into the Lagos State Sex Offenders’ Register.
“This action reinforces ongoing efforts to protect minors, deepen accountability, and ensure the public has access to accurate information,” Pedro added.
Nollywood actress Damilola Adekoya, popularly known as Princess, had earlier appealed during a live Instagram session for the state government to ensure Baba Ijesha’s name is added to the register.
